Requirements
Participants must meet the following inclusion criteria to be eligible for this clinical trial:
- Overweight Adults who also have type 2 diabetes
- Ages 18 to 75
- Smoking criteria: smokers or non-smokers allowed
- BMI: ≥27kg/m2
- Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
- Have an HbA1c ≥7.5% to ≤10.5% at screening
- Have had a stable body weight (<5% body weight gain and/or loss) for the 3 months prior to Visit 2
- Have been treated with any of the following, alone or in combination, for at least 3
- months prior to screening (Visit 1):
- diet and exercise
- stable dose of metformin (and not more than the locally approved dose), or
- SGLT2 inhibitor.
- Must not have uncontrolled high blood pressure
- Must not have taken GLP-1 inhibitors in the last 6 months.
- Must not have had an elevated resting pulse rate (mean >100 bpm) or reduced resting pulse rate (mean <60 bpm) at screening (Visit 1) and baseline (Visit 2).
- Must not have any of the cardiovascular conditions within 3 months prior to screening (Visit 1):
- acute myocardial infarction
- cerebrovascular accident (stroke)
- unstable angina, or
- Hospitalization due to congestive heart failure.
- Health status is further evaluated by reviewing medical history, screening assessments, and visit with physician
About study
The purpose of the study is to test if the two investigational medications, used alone or together, will help reduce weight in adults who have obesity or are overweight and also have type 2 diabetes. The study we are currently enrolling is to find potential treatment options for obesity. Volunteers diagnosed with obesity or who are overweight are needed at this stage of research. This is a research study, and your participation is voluntary. You may stop participating at any time. Available and willing to commit to study visit structure: 11 outpatient visits.
